Sliač - spa resort & hotels
The Sliač Spa is located in a beautiful natural setting created by the western part of the Zvolen Valley in the Slovak Rudohorie Mountains, 373 m above sea level. It is situated between central Slovakia’s regional centre, the city of Banská Bystrica, and the district town of Zvolen. Surrounded by extensive forests, parks and plains, it looks out over the valley of the Hron River and its basin, the mountains of “Kremnické” and “ Štiavnické vrchy” and the western part of the Low Tatras. Given the fairly low altitude and open location of Sliač, the local climate is quite warm, relatively dry and overall quite serene. The oldest written record regarding the springs at Sliač can be traced back to 1244, to the reign of King Belo IV. As a spa, Sliač was in operation as early as the 16th century. Balneal treatments in Sliač are based on utilising the medical effects of mineral water and natural gas. The water contains sulphates, carbohydrates, magnesium and calcium, as well as a high level of carbon dioxide, with an isothermic temperature of 33.3 centigrade. There are just three other locations in the world (Argentina, Australia, Spain) with a composition of healing mineral water similar to that of Kúpeľný prameň (Spa Spring). Sliač is a highly professional health resort specialising in providing treatment to patients suffering from cardiac and vasal diseases, high blood pressure, civilisation diseases and gynaecological diseases. The beautiful, romantic surroundings of the spa invite visitors to take short walks and trips. The spa offers patients relaxation in its lounges, where cultural performances are staged on a regular basis. The traditional “Sliač Cultural Summer” is organised during the main season. This event always proves to be a major event, with symphony concerts, music, singing, dancing and theatre shows showcasing domestic and foreign artists.
