The spa resort is situated in western Rhodopes at about 550 m above sea level on the banks of the river Kanina, near the river Mesta and among natural acacia forests. The picturesque surroundings, mild climate with Mediterranean influence and pure air make Ognyanovo an interesting spa destination. The mineral water is hot 43 degrees Celsius, low mineralized, hydro-carbon-sulfate-sodium, fluoric, with a pH of 9.1.

Near the spa are the two villages - museums - Leshten and Kovachevitsa, where are preserved the traditional Rhodopes architecture, culture and way of life from the Bulgarian Revival period. One may have a walk to the ruins of the Roman town Nikopolis ad Nestum (4th century).
